Tourism and Conservation

The management of tourists

Key Stages 3, 4, AS, A2 and Higher Education

Lulworth provides a classic case study of countryside management in a 'honeypot' site with four major aspects to consider.

  • Conservations and areas of natural heritage

  • The landowner, local community and economy

  • Agriculture and fishing

  • The demands of tourism

The session begins with a slide show and discussion at the Heritage Centre.  This will include a detailed assessment of current designations, facilities, conflicts, financial implications and specific practical schemes undertake at Lulworth.

The Ranger will then lead a walk around the area to view and investigate some specific management issues.  Consideration will be given to some of the practical solutions that have been implemented such as erosion control projects, landscaping schemes and Countryside Stewardship.

Students will be encouraged to discuss specific points and wider issues raised during the session.

Your individual requirements can be accommodated by prior arrangement.  Sessions can be blended together if required, for example Rocks and Landforms with Tourism and Management.

Schools wishing to follow this session by walking to Durdle Door can do so independently.

To discuss or book a session, please telephone the rangers on 01929 400155
