The Fossil Forest
The Fossil Forest is an amazing example of fossils left behind by trees millions of years ago. The 'tufa' are fossilised rings of algae that gathered around tree trunks as a forest flooded nearly 150 million years ago. Access is from the eastern end of Lulworth Cove and down some steel steps; please follow the signs. Access is through the MoD land leased from the Lulworth Estate and the Fossil Forest is closed when they are firing; however, they are open on most weekends and throughout August. Please check under Information.
